Ossining Train Station Over Metro North – Ossining, NY
This project involved the raising of the existing Ossining Train Station over the Metro North Railroad tracks to allow for higher capacity freight cars. Also, 2 new access ramps to the adjacent parking area were constructed. The design and execution of the station lifting operation was self-performed by DeFoe forces using a highly innovative system. The lifting of multiple steel columns utilizing special jacking equipment and steel blocking had to be performed in unison. The simultaneous jacking of all lift points was accomplished in one day by the entire DeFoe workforce – a true team effort!
Metro North service remained active throughout the project.
DeFoe self-performed all engineering and steel fabrication for this complex jacking system. Jacking operations were performed during off-peak hours without any interruption of Metro North service. New steel bolsters were added to the existing columns to provide the additional vertical clearance. New pile foundations, abutments, piers and retaining walls were constructed for the new access ramps. New structural steel and cast-in-place concrete decks with concrete barrier completed the structure.
