FDR Drive 96th Street – Manhattan, NY
This project required the removal and replacement of the existing FDR Drive Bridge over 96th street. At all times, traffic was maintained on the mainline drive and the heavily trafficked entrance and exit ramps.
The entire 96th Street bridge was demolished in three stages and rebuilt while maintaining two lanes of traffic on the busy FDR Drive. New concrete foundations and piers were constructed. The existing deck and cellular structure was supported during construction with temporary shoring towers designed and installed by DeFoe Corp. New abutment caps were built to receive new bearings and steel stringers, which were designed to meet the new AASHTO codes. The cast-in-place deck was constructed in three stages implementing construction joints and closure pours. New safety concrete barrier and upgraded lighting was added at the fascia. DeFoe Corp. completed this project on time.
