Port Authority Bus Terminal Structural Modifications Manhattan, NY
This project involved the strengthening of the Port Authority Bus Terminal exterior walls for seismic upgrading, which serves approximately 55 million riders a year.
This project included the installation of architectural concrete shear walls between the structural columns on the exterior walls of the building. Over 60 feet tall, these shear wall panels were constructed in a very confined urban environment along narrow Manhattan side streets. The work also involved cutting through the concrete slab at the bus departure gate level and excavating deep pits inside the building’s basement to pour large concrete encasements around the interior columns.
